"The wife is like the fire, or to put things in their proper proportion, the fire is like the wife.
Like the fire, the woman is expected to cook: not to excel in cooking, but to cook,

a school mistress, but not a competitive schoolmistress; a house-decorator but not a competitive house-decorator, etc...
She should have not one trade but twenty hobbies; she... may develop all her second bests.

on the contrary, they were kept at home in order to keep them broad.

Fresh Basil Vinaigrette

This is a recipe I found years ago off the food show Everyday Italian.
I've made it many many times.  It's great on any summer salad.
How could anyone not like fresh basil?  The smell, the taste, the Italian restaurantish-ness.

Fresh Basil Vinaigrette

In a blender, blend together:

1 bunch fresh basil (about 2 cups)
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
1 clove garlic
1 tsp Dijon mustard
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp freshly ground pepper

With blender running, add:

3/4 c olive oil

This recipe is excellent!!! Try it as you can use it on more than just salad. Our boys use it like "ranch" and it is so much healthier. If they like healthy it has to be goooood!!! Now we make it regular and miss it if it is not made.
This is from Jo Martinez and Havie makes the dressing for us. Again...YUM.

I'm glad everyone liked it. :)

Jo - What a good idea to use it for a veggie dip! I'll have to see if I can get that to work with my kids, considering how attached they are to Ranch dressing. :D
